Physical activity disclaimer and waiver
Plain-English notice on the risks of Systema training, the limits of what we teach, and what we ask you to agree to before you begin.
Summary
Systema is a physical training system. Like any martial art it carries the risk of injury. Before attending a class or seminar you agree that you are fit to train, that you take responsibility for working within your own limits, and that you have disclosed any relevant medical conditions to the instructor. Self-defence training prepares you for situations but does not guarantee any specific outcome in real life.
Physical activity and the risk of injury
Training in Systema involves movement, partner contact, falling and recovery, striking, breath work and exposure to physical pressure. By attending a class or seminar you acknowledge that this training involves strenuous physical activity on your own part and on the part of training partners, including fast motion, contact, punching, kicking, trapping, throwing, joint locking, use of training weapons and self-defence techniques, and that it is therefore an inherently dangerous and risky activity.
Always consult your doctor (physician) prior to beginning any exercises or physical training program. Should you experience any strain, stop immediately and seek the advice of a registered health care professional.
Release of liability
By attending any class, seminar or event you knowingly assume all risks involved in participating. To the extent permitted by law, you release and forever discharge East Anglia Systema, its instructors, students and all others relating to the activity engaged in, from any liability for death, injuries, illness, damage or physical defects which may result from engaging in training. This release does not apply to death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and nothing in this page excludes liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.
Removal from training
East Anglia Systema reserves the right to remove any participant from a class or seminar at any time where their behaviour is deemed unsafe or disruptive. No refund will be issued in such circumstances. East Anglia Systema accepts no liability for any costs incurred by the participant including travel or accommodation.
Not medical advice
Nothing on this site, and nothing said in class, is medical advice. Breathing practices, mobility work and recovery exercises taught at East Anglia Systema are intended as general practical training. If you have a medical condition, are managing an injury, or are unsure whether physical training is right for you, please consult a qualified medical professional before participating.
Self-defence training and real-world situations
Systema includes practical self-defence material. Training improves your awareness, your ability to remain calm under pressure and the range of responses available to you. It does not guarantee your safety in any specific real-world situation.
Children and minors
Our adult classes and seminars are intended for participants aged eighteen and over. Younger students are welcome only by prior arrangement with the lead instructor, with parental consent and with a parent or guardian present.
Personal property
Please look after your own belongings at the venue. East Anglia Systema cannot accept responsibility for personal items that are lost, stolen or damaged at a class or a seminar.
Photography, filming and recording
East Anglia Systema events, seminars and classes are filmed, photographed and audio recorded as a standard feature of how we operate. Recordings of seminars form part of a paid access product available to participants. Attendance at any class, seminar or event constitutes acceptance that filming, photography and audio recording will take place throughout. Images and recordings in which you may appear will be used for school records, training materials, participant access, marketing and social media. This is a condition of attendance, not a request for consent. If you do not wish to be filmed or photographed, please do not attend. We are unable to accommodate individual exclusions during group events.
Signed waiver on first attendance
Every new student is asked to read and sign a short physical-activity waiver before their first session. The waiver restates the points on this page. It is part of attending; if you would rather not sign, we are unable to enrol you.
Limits of liability
Nothing on this page limits or excludes any liability that cannot be excluded under UK law. Subject to that, our liability in connection with a class or seminar is limited to the fee you paid for that class or seminar.
Questions

Print, sign and bring this with you on the day. New students will be asked to sign before their first session.
Version 1.1, last updated 25 June 2026. Where this page and the signed in-person waiver differ, the signed waiver applied at first attendance takes precedence. This disclaimer is governed by the laws of England and Wales.
